Coach B
Runs the after-school program at the Maple Grove Rec Center
Coach B works at the Rec Center every day after school. He runs the games, the sports, and the Kids Club. The Kids Club is the crew of regulars. They’re the kids who show up most days. They know each other. They know him.
He’s a teacher, but not the kind with a chalkboard. He teaches by doing things with you. When a kid gets stuck, he doesn’t fix it for them. He waits. He tries it himself. He messes up too. Then they figure it out together.
At home, Coach B is always making something. He watches videos to learn new stuff. How to plant a garden. How to fix a chair. How to paint a wall the right color. He gets it wrong a lot. He does it again. That’s how he learns.
That’s why the Kids Club works. Coach B doesn’t pretend he has the answers. He just shows the kids how to keep trying.
A few fun things about Coach B
- He puts up shelves. Some of them fall down.
- His whistle is made of wood. He made it himself.
- He watches how-to videos at night to learn new things.
- He painted his kitchen wall three times before he liked it.
- He never says good job. He says, I saw what you just did.
